10 reasons why you should not be an actor

December 17, 2022

You read correctly, these are the top 10 reasons why you should not pursue acting

  • 1. You will probably never be a movie star.

The vast majority of actors will never become movie stars. In fact, the vast majority of actors will never even come close to becoming movie stars. While it is certainly possible to achieve success as an actor, it is important to keep your expectations in check. Anyone who tells you otherwise is most likely either naive or trying to sell you something.

  • 2. You will probably never make a lot of money.

While there are a handful of actors who command huge salaries, the vast majority of actors make very little money. In fact, many actors are barely able to make ends meet. If you want to be an actor, you should be prepared for a life of financial insecurity.

  • 3. You will have to hustle.

If you want to be an actor, you will have to hustle. You will have to audition for roles that you may not even want. You will have to attend networking events and schmooze with industry professionals. You will have to do whatever it takes to get your foot in the door. Once you get in the door, the work really starts.

  • 4. You will have to deal with rejection.

As an actor, you will have to deal with rejection on a regular basis. You will be rejected for roles that you really wanted. You will be rejected by casting directors, agents, and managers. It is important to remember that rejection is just a part of the business and that it doesn’t mean that you are a bad actor.

  • 5. You will have to deal with disappointment.

Even if you are lucky enough to land a role, there is no guarantee that the project will be successful. Movies flop all the time, and TV shows get cancelled all the time. As an actor, you need to be prepared for disappointment and heartbreak.

  • 6. You might have to move to Los Angeles (or New York).

If you want to be a working actor, there is a good chance that you will have to move to Los Angeles or New York City. These are the two cities with the most acting opportunities in the country. If you want to stay close to home, you might be limiting your career options.

  • 7 . You might have to start at the bottom.

When you first start out as an actor, you might have to take on small roles or even unpaid roles just to get your foot in the door. Don’t let this discourage you; everyone has to start somewhere. Just remember that even the biggest stars had humble beginnings.

  • 8. It’s not all glitz and glamour.

Contrary to what many people believe, being an actor is not all glitz and glamour. Sure, there are red carpets and award shows, but there is also a lot of waiting around and doing things that are not particularly exciting. If you want to be an actor, you need to be prepared for long hours of boredom punctuated by brief moments of excitement.

  • 9. It’s hard work.

Acting is not easy. It requires long hours of rehearsal, memorization, and emotional investment. If you are not prepared to work hard, then acting might not be the right career choice for you.

  • 10. It’s worth it. (The most important point in this list)

Despite all of the challenges that come with being an actor, it is still an incredibly rewarding profession. There is nothing quite like seeing your name on the marquee or hearing your voice on the radio. If you are willing to work hard and deal with disappointment, then being an actor just might be worth it for you.

After all, you made it to number 10 on this list without turning away, so chances are: you want it bad enough to make things happen!
